New South Wales, Australia
120+ homes, commons building

Projected designed at Mithun.

This project involved the masterplanning and schematic design of about 125 affordable “resort homes” for modest-income active retirees along the Murray river in New South Wales, southern Australia. A commons with recreation and amenity buildings, outdoor sport courts, trails and a new pond for natural drainage sit at the center of the community.  Five home types were developed, depending upon their orientation to the sun — with sunny, north-facing outdoor space and situated so as not to cast shadows over adjoining properties.

The first phase of this project includes the gatehouse, a playful little object foreshadowing the whimsical mood of the cottages.
